Local schools make crack-ing contribution to Poppy Line’s Easter Eggspress!

The North Norfolk Railway has teamed up with five local schools to help create their 2026 Easter Trail, which runs across the length of the heritage line from Sheringham to Holt throughout the Easter holidays. Students from Beeston Hall, Gresham’s Pre Prep, Kelling Primary School, Sheringham Primary and Sheringham Woodfields School were each invited to design eggs, complete with special letters for explorers to spot. Starting on March 28, every young visitor to the railway can enjoy the free hunt helping the line’s mascot “Morgan” to find all of the hidden eggs, with all successful explorers receiving their own chocolate egg to take home!

Two of the heritage line’s historic steam and diesel locomotives will be out on the line each day, available for visitors to enjoy unlimited hop on hop off travel. Day rover tickets, bookable via the line’s website www.nnrailway.co.uk, are valid for all day train travel as well as giving plenty of opportunity to hop off at any of the line’s three stations. Be sure to book at least 1 day before you travel and enjoy a 15% discount on tickets!

From historic buildings to model railways, there’s lots to see at each station including a children’s play coach at Holt and the chance to get hands on with signalling at Reedham Signal box on Easter weekend (April 3 – 6)!

NNR Events Officer, Sarah Carpenter said, “We’re delighted to have been able to work with local schools on this event, and are pleased to be able to give all the children involved a special ticket so they are able to come and admire their work! We hope they are proud to see their creations on display and look forward to welcoming them to enjoy the railway over the holiday period.”

Following the Easter holidays, the Poppy Line’s popular steam trains will be open most days until 2 November. Further details can be found on the line’s website www.nnrailway.co.uk. Advance booking is strongly recommended and passengers doing so receive a generous 15% discount on their fares.
