All aboard! Railway on the lookout for new volunteers
The North Norfolk Railway will be holding an Open Day on Saturday 7 June to give visitors interested in volunteering at the Poppy Line the chance to meet current volunteers, visit different areas of the Railway and discover the various roles available. The Railway is run year-round almost entirely by dedicated volunteers, whose passion and love help to keep the much-loved line on track.
Volunteer Ambassador Ann More commented, “Our amazing team of volunteers are at the heart our railway. From the people greeting and assisting you on the platform and in our shops, to those driving our locomotives and maintaining carriages. Without their time and dedication, we would not be able to run such a successful and popular heritage attraction.”
She added, “Our volunteers come from every walk of life which provides a wonderful selection of skills and experience. You do not need an in-depth knowledge and understanding of Heritage Railways, though it can always be helpful, and you will inevitably pick up knowledge during your time with us. For others it is that they want to learn new skills and keep active or are simply looking to meet new people. Whatever your reason for wanting to volunteer we are always happy to hear from you.”
The Open Day on Saturday 7 June will begin at 10am at Holt Station and finish at approximately 2pm. Accompanied by our knowledgeable station staff, potential new volunteers will tour the line to discover how the Railway runs and have the opportunity to peek behind the scenes. Those interested in attending are asked to get in touch with the Railway by email via enquiries@nnrailway.co.uk or by phone by 01263 820800, option 4 then 1.
Steam and heritage diesel trains run almost every day between April and October with extra activities during special events. Passengers booking in advance will enjoy special, discounted fares – full details including timetables and how to book can be found at www.nnrailway.co.uk.
