The North Norfolk Railway offers far more than just a train ride! Grab your tickets, watch the guard wave his green flag, listen for the sound of the diesel horn as you set off on a timeless journey through some of Norfolk’s most stunning coastal scenery and beautiful countryside.
Lovingly-restored heritage diesel trains transport passengers on an 11 mile return journey between the delightful Victorian resort of Sheringham and the smart Georgian town of Holt. Make a day of it with our great value rover tickets that are valid for unlimited travel allowing you to hop on and off all day! We recommend booking in advance and passengers doing so receive a generous discount on their fares.
The heritage railway is fondly known as the ‘Poppy Line’ after the 19th Century poet and theatre critic Clement Scott coined the term “Poppyland” referring to the unspoilt coastal area around Sheringham where poppies grow in abundance.
For those wishing to see steam, we plan to have an engine in steam at Sheringham Station for footplate visits and moving up and down in the confines of the station for photographs.
Timetable
Following discussions with Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service, we will be resuming steam train services on a limited basis from Sat 8 August.
Steam trains will run between Sheringham and Weybourne Stations, enabling us to continue to protect the vulnerable Kelling Heath and avoid Kelling Bank where locomotives have to work hard which can increase the chances of emitting sparks.
Our heritage diesels will continue to operate the full length of the line, and visitors are welcome to hop off and change from steam to diesel at Weybourne or Sheringham Station.
Please note that our largest accessible compartment will be paired with services hauled by the heritage diesel locomotive, aside from the 16:50 trip on Sundays.
