Come and join us for one of our Signalling Experience Days. This exciting day offers the chance to take part in the signalling of our regular service trains on selected dates throughout the year.
Under the close supervision of your dedicated box host and signalmen, you will have the opportunity to operate the signal levers which control the points and signals as trains arrive and depart from our Holt terminus station. Signalling Experience Days usually take place on when of our busier timetables are in operation with both platforms at Holt in use meaning there are plenty of arrivals and departures to control along with locomotive movements from one end of the train to the other to fit in.
Your experience day will include an introduction to signalling principles, instruction of signalling techniques and practical signalling experience. Before the day, we will send you a our Signalling Information Guide guide, so that you can swat up and sound like a pro before you go!
NEW FOR 2026 – the day will include a session in Reedham Junction Signal Box which has been moved by volunteers, restored at Holt and now includes and interactive signalling simulator.
Along with a full day experience running between 9am – 5pm participants will receive lunch prepared by the North Norfolk Railway and a certificate of participation, which will be presented at the end of the day.
Please note, the course does NOT include overnight accommodation.
Participants must be aged between 18 and 70 and reasonably physically fit in order to undertake this experience.
Please note that operational or other considerations may make it necessary to alter, amend or cancel train services and other activities. The North Norfolk Railway cannot be held responsible for any inconvenience or disappointment caused.
