Make Track to The Sixties
Please note, the car park at Weybourne Station will be closed during this event – visitors arriving by car are kindly asked to park at Holt or Sheringham. Entry to Weybourne Station will be for ticket holders arriving on foot or by train only.
Trains will not call at Kelling Heath Halt during this event – visitors should purchase tickets online in advance and walk to Weybourne Station and join the trains there.
Join us as we recall the atmosphere of the transformative decade with steam and diesel trains working alongside one another, live music from the era at Weybourne plus displays of some of the distinctive road vehicles of the time.
A frequent train service will operate between Sheringham and Holt with rover tickets allowing passengers to hop on and off all day to travel behind different locomotives and to see the activities at Weybourne Station.
Here, a small selection of classic cars that were typical of the era will be on display along with some 1960s caravans with their distinctive styling that made them luxury items at the time. There will also be an opportunity for visitors to have a go at traditional sideshows that were a feature of fetes in the 1960s!
Two steam locomotives, two diesel engines and a heritage railcar – all of which worked in the 1960s will be in action on the rails and the timetable will also feature a demonstration goods train of the era. The “new” diesel technology suffered a few teething problems at the time which often resulted in the modern diesels having to be pulled by the “old fashioned” steam engines – another aspect of the era that will be recreated over the weekend.
