POPPY LINE PROMISES STEAM GALORE WITH TWO GUEST ENGINES FOR GALA Volunteers at the North Norfolk Railway are looking forward to welcoming two contrasting visiting steam locomotives to their popular Steam Gala on 14, 15 and 16 April. RAILWAY ON TRACK FOR ACTION PACKED SPRING STEAM GALA The North Norfolk Railway has announced that its popular Spring Steam Gala will return once again on 14, 15 and 16 April. This year, the event will feature five locomotives including special guest No. 34028 “Eddystone” which will join the home fleet for three days of intensive service, on a visit to the Poppy Line away from its home at the Swanage Railway. HERITAGE RAILWAY INVESTS £300,000 IN TRACK REPLACEMENT AHEAD OF 2023 SEASON New pointwork costing over £300,000 is being installed at the eastern end of Weybourne Station on the North Norfolk Railway. The turnouts allow trains to use the stations two platforms and also allow entry to the line’s locomotive depot and the major project will be completed in time for the line’s popular historic, steam trains and heritage diesels to run during the February half-term. We offer our condolences to the Royal Family at this sad time are grateful for Her Majesty’s decades of service. Friday 9 September was particularly poignant for our team as the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service announced at the Platinum Jubilee weekend was to have been formally presented at a special ceremony. HEAVY FREIGHT VISITOR FOR NORTH NORFOLK’S BANK HOLIDAY STEAM GALA GWR 2-8-0T, No 4270 is set to guest at the North Norfolk Railway’s Bank Holiday Steam Gala on Saturday 27, Sunday 28 and Monday 29 August. The 103 year old Great Western heavy freight locomotive will be one of up to seven engines in steam for the three day event which will feature a varied schedule of passenger services including double-heading, non-stop expresses and local workings. Class 25’s Norfolk Visit Extended After appearing at the North Norfolk Railway’s Mixed Traction Gala earlier this month, visiting Class 25, D7659, is to stay at the East Anglian line until late July and will play a leading role in a number of forthcoming events. The recently-restored “Rat” will appear at the NNR’s Beer & Cider Festival on Friday 24 and Sunday 26 June hauling three return trips from Sheringham plus an early service from Holt. North Norfolk Railway Receives The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service Volunteers at the North Norfolk Railway which runs magnificently restored steam and heritage diesel trains between Sheringham and Holt have just been awarded The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. This is the highest award a local voluntary group can receive in the UK and is equivalent to an MBE. The railway operates along 5½ miles of restored track from Sheringham to Weybourne and Holt with almost all the tasks necessary to run the trains being carried out by a team of around 300 dedicated volunteers. Newly Restored Class 25 Part of Varied Line Up for NNR’s Mixed Traction Gala
Newly restored Class 25, D7659, will be visiting the North Norfolk Railway from its Peak Rail base for the East Anglian line’s annual Mixed Traffic Gala on 10, 11 and 12 June, working as part of an 11-engine line-up scheduled to include a variety of steam and diesel locomotives, multiple units and shunters. Owned by the Waterman Railway Heritage Trust, D7659 returned to service late last year after an absence of over 23 years and will be making her first appearance as a gala visitor following a restoration that amounted to a complete rebuild of the 1966-built locomotive.
