The Golden Years
Join us this July for our special Golden Years event, two days of classic vehicles and live music accompanied by an intensive train service in celebration of our Golden Anniversary!
This new event will recreate the atmosphere of the 1960s, 70s and 80s on and off the tracks; the period saw pioneering preservationists create the foundations of today’s much-loved railway while the era’s iconic cars, styles of music and distinctive fashion mean the three decades are warmly remembered to this day.
The weekend’s timetable will feature a mix of steam and diesel hauled trains – the “new” diesel technology introduced before the line’s official closure in 1964 suffered a few teething problems at the time which often resulted in the modern diesels having to be pulled by the “old fashioned” steam engines! Explore the line at your leisure and make sure to use your rover tickets to hop on and off at each station to fully explore the activities there.
